We chose this topic to work on because as a group we feel that there has been an increase in violence throughout the world and much of this violence is then transferred to schools causing school shootings and violence particularly in the United States.
Organization
The organization we chose to focus on is called NSSSS which stand for Nation School Safety and Security Services. There are numerous ways that this organization is trying to help school violence and one of those ways is to help faculty write crisis action plans to help them during an emergency. They help the faculty during school professional development days by giving half and full day sessions to them. We are interested by their program because they go beyond then just giving speeches to the student body and faculty but they instead help them create these plans. They also teach the kids what to do if a situation should arise. We are modeling our action plan after them because our group is trying to raise awareness of the situation and teach people about what they can do about it.
